Starbase 109: The Phoenix

"We have powerful tools: Openness, optimism and the spirit of curiosity." -Jean-Luc Picard

Welcome to Starbase 109! We are a "Star Trek" play-by-Nova RPG sim with a legacy covering over a decade! Starbase 109 is part of Theta Fleet's “Area 51” task force.

Our sim takes place within the decade prior to the events in the first season of “Star Trek: Picard.” SB109 lies out on the edge of Federation space, isolated far from the more “lawful” parts of the Alpha Quadrant. As a Federation starbase, we must uphold Federation law. But that can be tricky when you're located in a place rife with social instability. Sometimes we must take matters into our own hands, even if that means bending the rules... something the station's inhabitants know all-too-well!

We're looking for bright minds to come aboard and create fantastic stories within the “Star Trek” universe! We are a sim that honors Gene Roddenberry's original vision of hope, aspiration, and progression of the human spirit!

Our sim is rated PG-13 and is open to ages 18 and higher. We do not condone writing of torture or excessive violence, harsh profanity, or graphic sexuality. We encourage compelling plots with a diverse cast of characters, containing the action and drama befitting the “Trek” universe on a Starbase with endless amounts of possibilities!

Above all, inclusion and activity between our crew is our first priority. Primary characters must take on roles vital to a Federation starbase. Every player is urged to interact with others. There are primary missions going on at all times, and characters will be required to perform their designated jobs. Stories with NPC characters are always welcome too! Feel free to write and create as much as you like! If you are new to online simming, we welcome you with open arms! We hope we can make your first steps into our community easy and enjoyable!

Before we accept your application, the Commanding Officer will contact you to start a "Sample Joint Post." This is meant to determine the quality of writing, your interaction with others, and how well you are able to write your character. It is not an official post.

Interested in joining? Make it so!

Legacy Award
In the memory of Susan Nixon. She was a mother figure to all who came aboard. She cared about every player and every character, and was our CO for almost the entirety of Starbase 109's twelve years. Her departure greatly saddens us all. Starbase 109, her legacy to us, will continue with her in all our hearts. Her contributions to the simming community and her ability to mentor writers on her sims has been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

» Player of the Month Award!

Posted on Sun 12th Oct, 2025 @ 9:47pm by Captain Gordon Francis in General News

Well, we've enjoyed a big September back in action, and I'm excited to announce our very own Chantal has won Player of the Month! Her hard work here while juggling sim with school has been consistently excellent. She's contributed heavily to sim morale and stayed involved in a big way with her insight and creative thinking. And while her hard work here is very appreciated, we also celebrate her recent academic achievements, where she finally kicked Algebra right in the variables! We're proud to have you here, Chantal! Congratulations!

» Fixed Problems

Posted on Sun 31st Aug, 2025 @ 12:31pm by Captain Gordon Francis in General News

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know if you received an email of "A Fire Shall Be Woken" attributed to "CAPT Adam Teague," just know that I have no idea who Captain Teague is, but I wrote the post.

Also, apparently the site had been programmed to send posts for my approval before they are posted. That's been driving me crazy and I think I fixed the problem. It shouldn't happen anymore. I trust all of you as players and writers. I don't want to be the kind of controlling Captain that has to approve everything first. Very sorry…

Greetings Starbase 109 Players,

Here is an update on my status for those interested...

The nerve pain in my shoulder is mostly better, but there's still occasional pain. I have an appointment this week with the pain specialist who gave me my shots a few weeks ago. I feel like I'm in a good space mentally and emotionally. This last week was a very good one.

What I'd like to do coming back is work on the temporal war storyline surrounding Gary Thirteen and Sundae, which has been in the works since before I took command. I also want to…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Sun 11th Jan, 2026 @ 3:51am by Magnus Temple & Commander Heriah Rex

ON:

Magnus had just finished up with his initial meetings with some of the senior staff on SB109, including the Captain. He hadn’t been on the station long but he was ready to get started on his plans for the new Federation Embassy and his direction as Chief Diplomat. Of course, those plans included finding his way back to his office via the Turbolift. He was so sure that he had turned left out of the lifts when he first arrived, but now found himself in an entirely unfamiliar area that was currently under construction. He wondered if he had…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Sun 11th Jan, 2026 @ 3:43am by Magnus Temple & Captain Gordon Francis & Commander Mindo

ON:

With his luggage decanted into his quarters and a brief detour getting lost trying to find the lift terminal, Ambassador Temple was now on his way towards Operations. Wearing a standard Federation white jacket, grey pants, and shiny black boots, he was dressed, as usual, for a formal meeting but he was feeling overwhelmed. He had seen the deck listing when he’d gotten onto the turbo lift and was staggered by the size of the station - let alone some of the featured facilities he saw.

“A stadium?!” He gasped, eyes scrolling down the list on the display panel.…

Mission: From The Ashes
Posted on Thu 8th Jan, 2026 @ 6:10pm by Commodore H'tek

-Start-

In the pitch black void of space, she slips silently from the confines of the vessel, leaving behind the bustling noise and artificial lights, armed with only the barest necessities crucial for her mission. She carries with her a single sealed case containing essential tools for survival and operation, a dermal transponder seamlessly embedded within her skin to respond to the ubiquitous Starfleet onboarding ping, and a simple metallic band that encircles her finger a ring heavier with meaning than its maltreatment suggests.

Though unadorned and utilitarian, the ring a modest band of brushed steel with a thin line…

{Report- Summary Findings for Lieutenant Anslo Jaron Tol, 449877BG}

Subject of Inquiry: Anslo Jaron Tol
Reason for Inquiry: Interrogation of a Starfleet officer accused of crimes.
Level of Inquiry: Maximum -AUTHENTICATED

Incident Summary:

As alleged by defendant: Anslo Jaron was compelled into joining when Ambassador Talbic Grentkit elected to end his life rather than execute a devastating battle plan during the Dominion War. Starfleet’s response was to perform an illegal forced joining, overriding Anslo's explicit refusal, ensuring the Tol symbiote's survival.

-Addendum: Context is required for Anslo's sudden change in behavior to be properly conveyed by request of Admiral…

Mission: From The Ashes

-Start-

It was 0750 hours when Captain Francis emerged from the turbolift into the large room that made up Central Operations. A Yeoman approached and gave him the PADD containing the reports of the previous shift. Francis nodded to the Gamma Shift officers preparing their consoles and reports for Alpha Shift, which began in ten minutes. Francis would use that time to scan through the morning's reports while getting a cup of coffee. As he disappeared into his Ready Room, the other members of Alpha Shift began to arrive.

As he stepped in, Commander Paul Graves was behind the desk,…

» No One Named Damion Ildaran Wrote This

Posted on Sat 20th Dec, 2025 @ 12:31am by Lieutenant Damion Ildaran

This log entry will self-destruct five seconds after I finish writing it.

Well, I made it onboard the Sherpa. I hate to think of the three injured people I left behind in that corridor. Unlike Scottish organized crime bosses and their lieutenants, they did nothing to deserve the pain I dished out to them. Well, maybe Cmdr. Rex did, but I'm not going there.

At least they all gave as good as they got. If I hadn't been portraying someone frantic with terror, I wouldn't have pressed them so hard or dislocated that one guy's shoulder. I suspect I did…

» Personal Log: Anslo Tol (?)

Life aboard the Transport Ship Sherpa

I can't believe I actually got onboard this ship. Most ships, you show up with no luggage, you get looked at funny and questioned. Not here--not by the crew, anyway. Some of the other passengers are suspicious, and no wonder. I have bruises on my bruises. I ache in parts of my body I didn't know existed, and my entire right side is sore. Those security guards and the Trill commander put up a hard fight. Right now, I just feel lucky to be alive and thankful to be here and not in the…

» If I Stay Here Without You

Posted on Fri 31st Jan, 2025 @ 1:05am by Lieutenant Damion Ildaran

I need to do some thinking.

I was walking through the Promenade this evening because I'd bought some new seeds for my hydroponics garden, and this godawful song started playing over the PA system. It was an old Earth song, very peppy and upbeat, and I wasn't really in the mood--but then the lyrics hit me: I just want to be your everything. And it got me thinking about Elizabeth.

Big surprise there. What doesn't get me thinking about Elizabeth, these days?

But the really prominent thought in my mind was, You shouldn't be my everything. I miss you so…

» Musings on the Theme from 'Patton'

Posted on Sat 19th Oct, 2024 @ 5:46pm by Lieutenant JG Kellian Michaels

This evening, when I got home from work, I made supper and decided to watch an old Earth movie called Patton. It's about a United States Army general named George Patton, who was known for being rather flamboyant, exhilarated by combat, and intolerant of what he perceived as weakness in others. Most interestingly to me, he remembered past lives in which he had served in historical military forces. He could stand on a historical battlefield and describe exactly some battle he had fought in because he was seeing it as he remembered it happening. I suspect people at the time…

» Krell's Personal Log

Posted on Wed 31st Jan, 2024 @ 5:52pm by Krell House of Mer'uk

Krell had shown the last two of his guests to their quarters on the Amar and went back to his quarters and decided to take a moment to add to his personal log. He sat down at the desk. It was nothing special, just a hard alloy metal frame like everything else in his quarters. The Klingons did not believe in comfort, they thought it would make them weak. There was a cushioned sofa, two cushioned chairs and coffee table at one end though, they were used to entertain certain guest if they were to come to his quarters to…
