Starbase 109: The Phoenix

Welcome to Starbase 109! We are a "Star Trek" play-by-Nova RPG sim with a legacy covering over a decade! Starbase 109 is part of Theta Fleet's “Area 51” task force.
Our sim takes place within the decade prior to the events in the first season of “Star Trek: Picard.” SB109 lies out on the edge of Federation space, isolated far from the more “lawful” parts of the Alpha Quadrant. As a Federation starbase, we must uphold Federation law. But that can be tricky when you're located in a place rife with social instability. Sometimes we must take matters into our own hands, even if that means bending the rules... something the station's inhabitants know all-too-well!
We're looking for bright minds to come aboard and create fantastic stories within the “Star Trek” universe! We are a sim that honors Gene Roddenberry's original vision of hope, aspiration, and progression of the human spirit!
Our sim is rated PG-13 and is open to ages 18 and higher. We do not condone writing of torture or excessive violence, harsh profanity, or graphic sexuality. We encourage compelling plots with a diverse cast of characters, containing the action and drama befitting the “Trek” universe on a Starbase with endless amounts of possibilities!
Above all, inclusion and activity between our crew is our first priority. Primary characters must take on roles vital to a Federation starbase. Every player is urged to interact with others. There are primary missions going on at all times, and characters will be required to perform their designated jobs. Stories with NPC characters are always welcome too! Feel free to write and create as much as you like! If you are new to online simming, we welcome you with open arms! We hope we can make your first steps into our community easy and enjoyable!
Before we accept your application, the Commanding Officer will contact you to start a "Sample Joint Post." This is meant to determine the quality of writing, your interaction with others, and how well you are able to write your character. It is not an official post.

Legacy Award
In the memory of Susan Nixon. She was a mother figure to all who came aboard. She cared about every player and every character, and was our CO for almost the entirety of Starbase 109's twelve years. Her departure greatly saddens us all. Starbase 109, her legacy to us, will continue with her in all our hearts. Her contributions to the simming community and her ability to mentor writers on her sims has been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Well, we've enjoyed a big September back in action, and I'm excited to announce our very own Chantal has won Player of the Month! Her hard work here while juggling sim with school has been consistently excellent. She's contributed heavily to sim morale and stayed involved in a big way with her insight and creative thinking. And while her hard work here is very appreciated, we also celebrate her recent academic achievements, where she finally kicked Algebra right in the variables! We're proud to have you here, Chantal! Congratulations!

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know if you received an email of "A Fire Shall Be Woken" attributed to "CAPT Adam Teague," just know that I have no idea who Captain Teague is, but I wrote the post.
Also, apparently the site had been programmed to send posts for my approval before they are posted. That's been driving me crazy and I think I fixed the problem. It shouldn't happen anymore. I trust all of you as players and writers. I don't want to be the kind of controlling Captain that has to approve everything first. Very sorry…

Here is an update on my status for those interested...
The nerve pain in my shoulder is mostly better, but there's still occasional pain. I have an appointment this week with the pain specialist who gave me my shots a few weeks ago. I feel like I'm in a good space mentally and emotionally. This last week was a very good one.

A Yeoman approached and gave him the PADD containing the reports of the previous shift. Francis nodded to the Gamma Shift officers preparing their consoles and reports for Alpha Shift, which began in ten minutes. The nice thing about being in Ops was, you could get to other parts of the Starfleet-controlled decks of 109 very quickly from there. 0600 had come too early in the opinion of the physician who had to open his clinic on his own. His daughter bless her, had to attend Sickbay for her own residency hours which he would never begrudge her. He was incredibly proud of her achievements, and would not speak against them. It did make things more difficult for him, with his scheduling. For he could not rely upon her exclusively to open the other clinic. They'd shifted the hours somewhat, so that both of their schedules could be accommodated.

Well, I made it onboard the Sherpa. I hate to think of the three injured people I left behind in that corridor. Unlike Scottish organized crime bosses and their lieutenants, they did nothing to deserve the pain I dished out to them. Well, maybe Cmdr. Rex did, but I'm not going there.

Life aboard the Transport Ship Sherpa
I can't believe I actually got onboard this ship. Most ships, you show up with no luggage, you get looked at funny and questioned. Not here--not by the crew, anyway. I was walking through the Promenade this evening because I'd bought some new seeds for my hydroponics garden, and this godawful song started playing over the PA system. It was an old Earth song, very peppy and upbeat, and I wasn't really in the mood--but then the lyrics hit me: I just want to be your everything. And it got me thinking about Elizabeth.

This evening, when I got home from work, I made supper and decided to watch an old Earth movie called Patton. It's about a United States Army general named George Patton, who was known for being rather flamboyant, exhilarated by combat, and intolerant of what he perceived as weakness in others. Most interestingly to me, he remembered past lives in which he had served in historical military forces.
