Life aboard the Transport Ship Sherpa
I can't believe I actually got onboard this ship. Most ships, you show up with no luggage, you get looked at funny and questioned. Not here--not by the crew, anyway. Some of the other passengers are suspicious, and no wonder. I have bruises on my bruises. I ache in parts of my body I didn't know existed, and my entire right side is sore. Those security guards and the Trill commander put up a hard fight. Right now, I just feel lucky to be alive and thankful to be here and not in the brig on 109.
I replicated a hooded robe for myself, which I'm keeping in my sleeping pod until we debark at Acamar. I'll put it on when I leave the ship, and then I can disappear somewhere, anywhere, away from the Dangerous Duo.
I used the commander's combadge to pay for replicating the robe and a couple of other necessities. Anything to throw off my scent.
So...this ship. I've never traveled on a refugee transport before. You can tell they don't use new ships for this kind of work; the Sherpa is definitely refurbished and has the look of a vessel that's seen a lot of use. Most of the decks consist of sleeping pods--a bed and little else, since they have to cram as many passengers onto this ship as they can. I'm in one meant for a single passenger, but there are some double-occupancy sleeping pods available and more family cabins than I would have expected. Dining is communal in a mess hall, but we have different sittings because all of us won't fit in the mess hall at once. The food is mediocre. I stick to vegetables, lean meat, and tea.
Traveling with refugees is taking some getting used to. I haven't been around crying children or arguing adults in decades. I can't say I like the experience.
I wonder what work will be available on Acamar for refugees? I suspect I could do security guard work--but I have no references. I'll have to start from the bottom and work my way back up to something decent. Going back to Trill will not be possible--not with the Duo at large. I hope Tol stays healthy.
Aside from getting out for meals, I mostly stay in my cabin. I'm stiff and sore, and I'd rather not be remembered by too many people here. Besides, I told the crewman who let me aboard that I'd be mostly unseen and would stay out of trouble. I intend to keep that promise.
I do wish I had a book to read, though. Oh, well. time for some sleep.
